Intel’s six core “GulfTown” processor

Did I just say six? Yes indeed, at first I thought it was a typo when I first read it on PCLab, but further research proved to be true. The six core processor of course shows strong increases in performance for the chip rumoured to be in the next series of the Mac Pro, sadly I wish the it was released on a pc first, which is herald as the mother platform of all games!(am not just saying that, it is a FACT!!)

The six core Xeon chip code-name “Gulftown” shows increased performance of up to 50% faster than the previous Quad-Core Xeon during parallel tasks, and uses up to 50% less power, making it feasible to appearing in laptops, something the Quad-Core has failed miserably in. But I doubt in this current market where battery lifetime outsells processor power (Netbooks for example) people will be so quick to adopt this new core.

The chip would be featured in the future Mac Pro models that could arrive as early as my birthday next year (first quarter), it is still widely unknown if it will appear in PCs (fingers crossed) but it is rumoured that apple will have exclusive use of this almighty processor, which is a shame really because it means  all of us PC lovers will basically have to loath the Mac even more!

The GulfTown will be sold under the Core i9 name and will be intel’s first six core dual socket processor, the 32nanometre chip features  12MB of L3 cache. If paired with another chip as Apple usually does in its high end work stations, the processors will offer 12 physical and 24 logical cores! To me that’s what I call amazing!!

It is also speculated that the new Mac Pro will have a motherboard with a 12Gbit/sec Ethernet port and will support 8GB and 16GB RAM modules allowing for a maximum of 128GB of RAM!! If u are like me, you are probably reading this with your mouth open! Just the thought of it is enough to make a technology enthusiast exited!
