I am east african, are you?

It is not like me to write on start ups especially online based. But I believe that this one deserves a mention. The creators are joining a small but fast growing group of young Kenyans keen to ride the technology train as the region experiences a boom in this sector. And as you expect, yours truly has not been left out. I am currently involved in a project called IMEASTAFRICAN. It is a small social networking site at first targeted toward East African students studying at the University of Leeds, as it turns out, the creator, Denis Bosire(owner 22rocks.com) decided to take it a step further and now wants to include all the East African students studying in the UK. Imeastafrican.com will play an important role in linking up students who are far away from home, if any international student is reading this, he/she will remember how hard it was at first to settle in.

Having a clique of friends from the same country makes life as a foreign student much more bearable, and as experience has taught me, you are more than likely to became life long friends with your new found colleagues.

On the take that this site was taking on the role of social giants like facebook, Denis commented “This site target satisfies a specific niche, and thats why its so unique”

For now, the site is still heavily under tests, and hopefully it will be fully stable by September, that is when the freshers come in, and as you know, you don’t want to miss this lot.

Everyone is invited to join, but it would serve great purpose if you are Kenyan, Ugandan, Tanzanian, Ethiopia and (cant remember the others, sorry). I truly am proud to be EastAfrican, and I would go to great lengths to support our own.
