I usually give anyone the benefit of doubt when they ask me to crack their “lost” passwords since they have forgotten theirs, back in high school I used to do it just to show off, Now, its way too risky and mostly time wasting venture that i left to newbies, but before i put a nail on it, here is one little application to get you through those “Lost” password situation.

They say big things come in small packages, well, they were right(who ever they were!). Our master key is a little package known as ophcrack, some of you might be already familiar with it, but recently, a newer version was launched which included a live cd.

Ophcrack Live CD is a great cracking tool based on slax Linux which quickly and efficiently cracks Windows Xp and Vista Admin passwords.

Ophcrack is a free Windows password cracker based on rainbow tables. It is a very efficient implementation of rainbow tables done by the inventors of the method. It comes with a Graphical User Interface and runs on multiple platforms.

I have tested it and it cracked my windows Xp password in few minutes. I never knew that it was so easy to break the windows Xp password.

However if you want to safeguard your system against Ophcrack you can make your password longer than 14 characters and then Ophcrack will not be able to break your system passwords.
